Media has evolved into a new form called online journalism. Online journalism is defined as the reporting of facts produced and distributed via the Internet. It gives more news to be shared with readers through online news. Any information or news can be put in the internet. Some news are facts but some cannot be measured because it is not filter out and edited unlike printed media.Therefore, the facts can be truth or false.

However, the advance in internet technology especially for spreading news towards public is seen becomes most preferred medium by readers to get news especially the new generation recently. Nowadays, a Net-Newsers especially younger generation likes college graduates and who able to access the internet access easily whether it is a notebook, smart phone such as Blackberry, Android and iPhone. As compared to printed media, online journalism has more powerful aspects in distributing news. It can be through audio, visual, and contains other pictures that can be seen by readers easily. Readers only have to click on any news link or related web or blogs to get the news or information needed immediately within 24 hours . Each minutes, there will be new information and fresh news to be updated through online. However, sometimes, the truthful of news or infromation can be true or wrong depend on the readers itself. Unethical bloggers or writers should be punished

The best example is bloggers. This is due to the fact that “contemporary online journalism is providing space for the public to voice their participation in the process of democracy, using freedom of expression and the freedom to participate in political debates”. Everyone can be a journalist which are they are can write or distribute any news or opinion, ideas and their perception on web logs or blogs. Individuals can give any opinion through blogs either it is true or false because there is no restriction to anyone to voice out their opinion according to the freedom of internet nowadays.

However, even online journalism is free to distribute any information, it should be controlled wisely especially to prevent any chaos, destruction or misunderstanding information towards people who’s read it. It does not matter what religion, race or political stand we hold, we can write on the Internet. The only things that distinguish the one from the others is their own self ethics conscience. Some said that online sources are less biased and more informative than the official media is often backed with the belief that online journalists are merely volunteers and freelancers who are not paid for their activity, and therefore are free from corporate ethics.

The freedom in online media as optional voices

Unfortunately, even they are free from corporate ethics, as journalists, writers or bloggers, ethics is important in order to guide especially in writing news or infromation to readers. Online journalism recently is seen too radical especially for bloggers whose wrote and express their opinion in the forms of unethical ways that can lead to chaos in nation stability. There are some cases that lead the bloggers, web-based reporters, or online editors to be jailed such as bloggers, Raja Petra. There are also case of insulting national autumn of `NegarakuKuku` by the Chinese boy, Namewee over the internet such as You Tube. His action is really unethical and can harm the national harmony. This case actually taint a country`s name and also can create a racism among Malaysian citizen and harm the harmony.There are also blogs that contains unexpected pictures or video that against the Malaysian norm and value such as gay`s blog and racist blog. These blogs should be controlled wisely to prevent other problem arises to the nation.

What will happen if there will be more unethical cases happen if the online journalism cannot be control? Online journalism should be a truthful, objective and enlighten readers with useful information or knowledge for extra satisfaction in distributing news and opinion towards readers. If uncontrolled, online journalism can be the most powerful enemy in creating unstable and destruction to the nation.
